Under the guidance of division supervisors and the Husbandry Manager, volunteers would support the management, care, exhibition, and study of the captive animal collection. May also assist in the daily husbandry care and maintenance of rehabilitation and transient (short term) animals.
Volunteers would learn by doing daily animal diet preparations, and routine cleaning of animal exhibits, holding pools, food preparation facilities and animal work areas. There would be opportunities to volunteer with husbandry staff in all our animal divisions; mammals, aquarium, avian, and rehabilitation. These positions are dependent on space availability and there may be a wait list.
There would also be the opportunity to participate in educational presentations to visitors and the public on topics relating to animal husbandry and ASLC operations.
Must be physically fit with a good sense of balance and be able to lift over 50 lbs. Other requirements include: see and hear; move about; stoop, kneel and crouch; use arms and hands; handle objects, tools and controls; and sit. Ability to work with and around large, wild animals.
