Part Time Security / Ground Keeper @ Alaska SeaLife Center

Description

This position is responsible for ensuring good order, proper conduct, safe conditions and maintaining the flower gardens at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training

Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Current 1st Aid/CPR certification, and basic computer skills.

Desired:

Satisfactory completion of two or more courses dealing with security officer training from the military or a recognized institution; completion of one or more self-defense training courses. Working knowledge of communications and security alarm systems. One year experience in a similar ground keeper position.  Experience working directly with the public preferred.

 

Security Officer Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Patrols the facilities and grounds ensuring that good order, proper conduct and safe conditions prevail.
  • Provides a variety of assistance to staff and visitors; responds to emergency request for assistance or crime in progress; takes initial action as the situation requires. Responds to and investigates incidents to include interviewing witnesses, photo documentation and preparing the incident report.
  • Monitors facilities after hours by foot patrol, various electronic equipment and vehicle. Makes trouble calls to on-call ASLC personnel and calls for police assistance when required by departmental procedures.
  • Carries out light custodial tasks as assigned. Tasks may include vacuuming of gallery and office floors, assisting with carpet shampooing, dusting, and light cleaning.
  • Maintains CPR/First Aid certification. Provides CPR/Fist Aid as needed.
  • Provides aid to staff and visitors in emergency situations.
  • Maintains daily log of events and unusual occurrences that take place during their shift.
  • Works a rotating shift. May be required to work overtime.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license.

Grounds Keeper Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  1. Assists with the cleaning and upkeep of the Center's  flower gardens.
  2. Trims shrubs, weeds gardens, waters, fertilizes, and plants vegetation 
  3. Operates various types of hand and power equipment such as rototiller, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrow, weed trimmer, and various types of landscaping equipment.
  4. Ensures equipment is maintained in safe and efficient working order.
  5. Maintains a clean, neat personal appearance consistent with the uniform policy.
  6. Maintains a valid driver’s license.
  7. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
  8. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a Temporary (2 month) Part Time and/or On-Call position.
